Sangria Popsicles

Hypothetical situation: If Oprah wanted me to share what my Aha! Moment was this month for her magazine, I would have an answer. Sangria popsicles!

Seriously- why did I never think of this before? Once I started freezing sangria, I couldn’t be stopped! I was a wine freezing machine- red wine, off-dry white wine, rosé, sparkling wine. The possibilities are endless! Although, wines on the fruitier end of the spectrum and/or with some residual sugar tend to taste better in final pop form. These will most definitely be making an appearance at the next summer party I either attend or throw.

PS- I used these popsicle molds from Ikea.

Sippin’ on Wine & Juice

This is the equation: Pressed Juicery juice + WINE = best idea ever.

Claire and I decided we should take something really healthy and add booze to it. That’s just what one should do.

Head on over to The Chalkboard Mag to see our juice & wine combos that’ll make your next party a little more virtuous…or your next cleanse a little more buzzed.

Sangria Wine!

Summer. Sangria. Putting fruit all up in some wine. Let’s do this!

I’m often asked which wines are best for making sangria. And as we are now in the thick heat of summer, there’s no time better than the present for this topic! I wrote last year about my new love of using Lambrusco as the base for sangria, but I want to get back to basics on this one.  Get Spanish or Portuguese wines!  There’s a reason why those wines are good in sangria- they’re made where it originated.

Rule of thumb: stick to young, fresh and unoaked wines. With white sangria play around with a spritzy Txakolina or a citrusy verdejo. Red sangria: look to garnacha, tempranillo/Rioja and the like. To mix things up a little, try a rosé sangria with some fun and fruity Vinho Verde rosado. And for some sparkling white sangria roll with a Cava. Do this. I beg of you.

Want some awesome sangria recipes? I love these: Rhubarb Pink Peppercorn Sangria (see photo above), Sangria Blanca and Cava Sangria. Perhaps one of these could be a lovely addition to your 4th of July festivities. Have a great weekend everybody. ¡Olé!
