Finca la Divina, Valle de Guadalupe

If you couldn’t tell from the blog, I’ve been having a bit of a moment with Baja. My boyfriend and I drove down from LA twice in one month and I’m pretty sure we’ve been bitten by the Baja bug. It’s just so lovely down there, and for such a short distance to travel the payoff is big. You cross this random/not-so-random line drawn in the sand and all of a sudden the air feels different, the sun looks more golden, the colorful culture is bursting at the border’s seams.

Thanks to the internet and good ole Instagram, I’ve already started to meet some friends down there! Kristin and Antonio of Life & Food are the coolest and have become sort of ambassadors of the food and drink scene in Baja. They take beautiful pictures and cover all the best hotels, wineries, and restaurants in the area. Because of them, I was invited to the opening fiesta for chef Javier Plasencia’s new boutique hotel in Valle de Gaudalupe, Finca la Divina. We’d already visited two of his other restaurants on the previous trip, Finca Altozano and Erizo, and they were dope. So, we would be plain dumb to miss this.

When we first arrived, I was like…”Is this heaven?” And then the majestic powers above whispered through a thick pork-filled smoky haze, “Yes it is.” Seriously though, it was an embarrassment of riches – a huge grill with every kind of meat, fresh tortillas and salsas, oysters, ceviche and tostadas, alllll the local wine and craft beer, a mezcal bar (see below), a giant table filled with Baja cheese, cocktails, desserts, and even a live jazz band…I could go on.

And all of this inside the brand new beautiful Finca la Divina. A place with a lot of character, heart, and elegance. But it’s not stuffy. And it’s affordable for such an amazing space. There are three bedrooms in the house, a huge pool with outdoor grill and entertaining space, and a massive sitting room with fireplace, bar and open kitchen. I seriously can’t wait until I can get enough friends to go down and rent out the whole thing. Who’s down?
