Late Night @ Ten Bells

I FINALLY went to Ten Bells while in NYC. Raise the roof! Sound the (ten) bells! Fist pound!

I was so happy to tuck into a bar stool for the night with good friends, good wine and good stories. I felt like I was in Paris with the chalkboard wine selections, downtown kids, dim lights and close quarters. A lovely gal named Emily (hope I’m remembering her name correctly!) took care of us and made some stellar recommendations.

I had never heard of Savoie winemaker Jean-Yves PĂ©ron and was excited to try his 2009 “Vers la Maison Rouge.” Stats: 100% Mondeuse, 80 yr old vines, zero sulfur additions, unfiltered. I was hoping to dig into a textured, chilled red with bright fruit and a foundation of minerality plus a little spice. That’s exactly what we got. Mondeuse is a must do wine if you have yet to explore it. It’s generally pretty affordable and highly drinkable- fun, but with substance. And Savoie is a region that doesn’t really get the attention it deserves.

How great is this “decanter”? It felt very Breaking Bad. But legal. I might have to make a trip to the…science store? Where does one buy such a thing?
