Nawlins

Father forgive me, for I have sinned. It’s been over a year since my last visit to New Orleans.

I took that photo of a slightly creepy clown/mime in the French Quarter during my last (and first!) trip to New Orleans in 2010.  I’ll hopefully be seeing a lot more whacky ish, because I’m headed back for a few days of gluttonous debauchery later this week!!

Remember what happened the last time I was in the Big Easy? A beignet love fest at Cafe du Monde and one of the most amazing dining experiences I’ve ever had at Galatoire’s.

Oh yeah, that happened too. It was the evening of the annual Christmas Festival. I was drinking a hurricane at Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop. A husband and wife dressed as Santa and Mrs. Klaus approached with a stroller disguised as a sleigh. I got in it. Photos were taken.

Hello, I have to say that I love the picture of Ursuline “the mime” you took. I met Ursuline Burgundy as he calls himself back in 1994. His real name is Harold Short and is actually one of the most giving individuals that I have EVER met in my life. Yes, creepy, wacky may be the way some people see him. I however see him as the person who changed my life forever. Harold saved my life and for that I owe him everything. He is a wonderful person and I miss him dearly!

Brian, Have you seen Harold around New Orleans lately?

Like Brian said above, Harold has raised lots of money for charity during the AIDS crises. He’s nothing but a giving person. Does anyone know if he’s still around New Orleans?

Oh wow – I am just now seeing your comments! I feel awful for calling him creepy all those years ago. He is a person with a story just like everyone. Hope he is well and still being his wonderful unique self!
