A SLO Kind Of Life

I’ve just returned from a pretty amazing weekend with my best friends, some truly inspiring and funny as hell people…and a whole lot of wine. We traveled up the coast by train to San Luis Obispo and were met by who else but the Proof Wine Collective guys!

The following activities occurred over the course of 3 days in no particular order:

  • tasting of the full Herman Story and Barrel 27 lineups in addition to some barrel tasting with rock star winemaker Russel From
  • a long bike ride to Avila Beach and a dip in the hot springs
  • barrel tasting at CCWS with Curt Schalchlin of Sans Liege (and a friendly visit from Josh Klapper of La Fenetre– with 2 bottles to taste in tow)
  • a spherical food themed potluck entitled “Well Rounded” (our contributions- veggie fritters and cinnamon sugar doughnut holes)
  • tasting with Autonom and Alta Maria winemaker Paul Wilkins (and of course- more barrel tasting. Cause that’s how we roll.)
  • Thai takeout from Noi’s (damn good)
  • the making of lots of new friends

Photo evidence:

Photos by Me, Joy Wilson and Josh McFadden. We are collectively in love with the Canon 5D.

I am so glad you got to go on a bike ride! Avila is a fun easy ride. I have yet to go to the hot springs. Which ones did you go to? The fancy personal ones or the pool on the corner near the fresh market?

I am happy you made it to NOIS! It’s such a great little secret.

That photo of Philip is outrageous. lol.

    Come back soon!

LOVE your photos. SLO is one of our favorite destinations. We took a cheesemaking course at Cal Poly, it was terrific!
